What Do CSI Insurance Medicare Supplement Plans Cover?

Medigap Plan A and Plan B provide coverage for the copayments and coinsurance costs that come with Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance) coverage.

Medigap Plan N is a mid-level plan that covers more costs than Medigap Plan A or Plan B. Plan N is not as robust as Plans C, F or G, however.

Medicare Supplement Plan C, Plan F and Plan G are among the most popular Medigap plans.

Plan F is the most popular Medigap plan. 55% of all Medigap beneficiaries are enrolled in Plan F.1 Plan F is also the only plan to offer coverage in all 9 of the benefit areas that can be covered by the 10 standardized Medicare Supplement Insurance plans.

Medigap Plan F provides 100 percent coverage of the following out-of-pocket Medicare costs:

  • Medicare Part A coinsurance
  • Medicare Part B coinsurance
  • First three pints of blood
  • Part A hospice care coinsurance and copayments
  • Coinsurance for skilled nursing facilities
  • Part A deductible
  • Part B deductible
  • Part B excess charges

Plan F also covers 80% of the costs for approved emergency care received outside of the U.S., which is the maximum allowed by Medicare Supplement Insurance. Original Medicare doesn’t typically cover medical care you receive while traveling abroad.

85% of all insurance companies that sold Medicare Supplement Insurance sold Plan F, so CSI is not your only option for obtaining Plan F coverage.1

How Much Does Plan F Cost?

The average Medigap Plan F premium in 2023 was $202 per month.2

Factors such as your age, gender, smoking status, health and location can all affect how much your Medigap plan may cost.

There is also a high-deductible Plan F option, which features all of the same Plan F benefits, but only after you meet your annual deductible for covered services. The average monthly premium for high-deductible Plan F in 2023 was $83.2

It should be noted that Plan F and Plan C are only available to people who were eligible for Medicare on or before January 1, 2020. Anyone who became eligible for Medicare on or after that date will not be allowed to enroll in Plan F or Plan C.

Anyone who was already enrolled in Plan F or Plan C before Jan. 1, 2020, will be allowed to keep their plan going forward. If you were eligible for Medicare before 2020, you may still be able to enroll in Plan F or Plan C if they are available where you live.

Plan G is the most comprehensive Medigap coverage option for anyone who became eligible for Medicare on or after Jan. 1, 2020.
